I want, I want, I want

Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but from the world.  And the world is passing away with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.  1 John 2:15-17 [ESV]

Don’t love the world’s ways.  Don’t love the world’s goods.  Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world – wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important – has nothing to do with the Father.  It juts isolates you from him.  The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out – but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.  1 John 2:15-17 [MSG]

Wanting your own way has nothing to do with the Father…it just isolates you from Him.

Yikes.

I do want my own way a lot.  Just this morning AFTER I read these verses I was doing my daily social network cruising and read a blog post about a friend’s visit with her college friend.  And immediately I got a lump in my throat because I miss MY college friends like woah.  And I WANT to live closer to them. And I WANT to be able to do life with them.

You know what I don’t want, though?  To be isolated from the Father.  And it seems to me that all my wanting, wanting, wanting is keeping me from walking in closer communion with Him.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with aching for things as long as we ache for Jesus more.  As long as we bring those aches to Jesus and trust Him implicitly with the outcome.

The end.

Love y’all!  And because I do here’s a little extra nugget for ya…for when you feel behind by Emily at Chatting at the Sky.  Read it if you feel like you’re always trying to catch up.  Wisdom beautifully stated.
